So what is your take on the similarities between Mass Effect and Star Control? The central theme of ME3, the siege of Earth by the Reapers, is also plainly influenced by Halo 3. Of course, Mass Effect was also influenced by other franchises and works of science-fiction - the treatment of AI's is reminiscent of the Marathon series, the spiritual precedessor of Halo. The Mass Effect series borrows very heavily from Star Control, to the point where you could probably predict the story from comparing both games.
